This week’s Retro FriDAYS is a salute to the Windy City, a place that occasionally gets name-checked as the biggest town around. Although let’s be honest, this is mostly about the band Chicago.
In my limited time watching I’ve never actually seen a scene set there, but they talk about it from time to time.
Although occasionally the stars pay a visit.
Like in 1993 when New Bo had a big tip.
Or more recently when Morgan caught Chloe and Philip snogging.
And here goes the musical tributes set to Chicago:
One of the most delightfully complex characters on Days, Victor is also one of the most audacious: “So I stole your eggs howevermanyyearsago, who cares right?” He’s lucky Maggie’s too nice to try what so many other women have in the past. We could (and probably will) make a Retro FriDAYS about all his marriages at some point, but today we focus on his tumultuous relationships with the fairer sex…
Will Caroline shoot Victor? (in 1986)
Kate helped set all this in motion to put Victor six feet under
Victor tells Nicole how it’s gonna be in this clip
So she gets her uppance the only way she knows how: Erratically and half-assed
I love me some Kate: Lauren Koslow looks ridiculously fantastic at age 59 and Kate is a great character.
Ian McCalister is no Stefano DiMera, but apparently Kate just can’t get enough. Alas, she’s kinda like Salem’s town bicycle – everybody gets a ride sooner or later. Aside, of course, from her past as an actual prostitute.
Ironically, her most enduring relationship was with Victor, and I couldn’t find videos of them together that were embeddable, so go here for your “Murder of Curtis Reed/Brown” flashback featuring OG Kate actress Deborah Adair.
Here’s more highlights:
Kate tells John about her past, with her body
Wonder if this gets awkward around the mansion?
MOM!!! Gross!!!
This is supposed to be just a fantasy, but wait for the end, wait for it…
Kate loves the old sex on the desk thing, doesn’t she?
Don’t forget the roof!
More Nicholas and Kate
Even back then, Daniel made no sense
Finally, Kate with her (soon to be ex?) husband Stefano DiMera
BONUS non-DOOL Lauren Koslow appearance! As a hooker-turned-non-hooking-success from the CBS and USA show Silk Stalkings back in 1993
We here at salemonSalem.com applaud anyone who can retire early and control their own destiny, so good for Renee Jones on her impending retirement after playing Lexie DiMera Carver for two decades.
Lexie may not have stolen the show in recent years, but she’s been part of some crucial stories over her run, spanning from 1987 to today, with a break in the early 90s. Her shady family background only exacerbated the internal battle between her angels and demons – an ambiguity that came to define her character. You probably already know she was the longest-running black female character on television – no small feat. TV Guide says Jones’ departure is the end of the line for Lexie, but who knows?
This week’s Retro FriDAYS is a tribute to a vaguely psychic MD who used to be a cop and, before she died dies, was Salem’s First Lady. What else could an illegitimate child of Stefano DiMera ask for?
There was her off-and-really off relationship with Sami…
(skip to 5:27 for violence)
File this under Awkward Man on Woman Violence at 5:40
Her troubled relationship with her mother, Celeste
And her marriage to Abe
You can’t talk about Lexie without talking about affairs. As her Wikipedia article noted, “Sami has blackmailed Lexie on a number of occasions due to Lexie’s repeated adultery.”
Here’s a couple:
Tek & Lex
Lexie and Brandon go clubbin’ with Nicole
Then Brandon gives Lexie a clubbin’ IfYaKnowWhatIMean
And finally, a video here just for its innate awesomeness. Lexie meets Marlo in this epic look back. NerdChloe! Victor! Bope! Stefano! Belle! Marlena! Alice! Shawn!
