Retro FriDAYS: Love in an Elevator Edition
Elevators are a great plot device – mostly when they get stuck. You would think Salem County’s elevator inspector would be on thin ice with all these accidents. Here’s a look back:
Going… down?
Carly lives it up while they’re going down
I missed the Kaman days. Looks like they were pretty entertaining.
Remember when this happened?
Ejole!
Belle, my belle
I don’t know who Shelle is, do you? (Editor’s note: TheOtherDiMera didn’t watch back then, but MrsKiriakis did. Shelle=Shawn and Belle)
Finally, a compilation with some you’ve already seen, and some you haven’t.
Retro FriDAYS: The Proposal
For a show centered around the love lives in Salem, it only makes sense that marriage (or at least a stab at it) would be part and parcel. This week’s Retro FriDAYS takes a look at hopeful men, and sometimes apprehensive women.
Roman gets down on one knee for a woman used to getting on both of hers.
Seeing Jack makes me sad. So much more they could have done bringing him back.
For all the LUMI lovers
And a ride into the sunset
E.J. has gotten pretty good at this. Here’s highlights.
This feels like ancient history, even though it was earlier this year. Also a reminder of how all over the place writing has been this year.
Oh, and this
And in between there was this
We’ll all pretend this never happened

Wednesday LOL Dayz!
And, even though Andrew was probably more of a hipster, I couldn’t help myself because of this story about a hipster bank robber…

Friday LOL Dayz: Hide the Salami Edition
Thursday LOL Dayz
So Days has been too awesome lately (EJ is a DiMera after all! Stefano is back! Chad knows what Gabi did! Who is Sami going to sleep with next? Why is Will making out with girls? T is going around starting trash and punching people!). As a result, we were so absorbed in watching yesterday we failed to take more than one picture. Luckily we have some spares in our arsenal, because Days being too awesome is a problem I’m willing to have.
I finally understand EJAMI
For a long time, I have pretty much stayed out of the whole EJAMI/LUMI/SAFE showdown. My line, which I still stand by, has always been that I would prefer Sami be alone and miserable- because I’m mean like that. But with the scenes last week I finally at least felt like I understand EJAMI.
I should probably back up. I started seriously watching during the height of the Sami/Lucas/Austin/Carrie dramz. Sami and I went to high school around the same time, so I was pretty invested in that story line, and I would alternate between hating Sami for always ruining things for herself with scheming and hating Carrie for being such a goodie two shoes. I wanted Sami to buckle down and be a responsible person, so that made me a LUMI fan. I thought Lucas had the stability she needed.
But I have learned something since high school: people are rarely most attracted to the people it would make the most sense for them to date. Especially people like Sami. It’s too easy. Sami needs a challenge, and with Lucas she gets away with everything she does. She has no one to really challenge her (except of course Kate). Even Lucas’ reaction to Sami running out on him drives this home: he was not surprised.
EJ is obviously attractive. He has that irresistible nonchalance that says “if I’m paying attention to you, you must be pretty special.” It is always a chase with EJ, because even if he is professing his love for you, you never know how he really feels. I missed the time when EJ and Sami first hooked up- I am thinking college classes pre-DVR are to blame. So when I started, it seemed like the only thing that tied them together was chemistry. But I can’t deny they have chemistry.
I realized on Friday that EJAMI comes down to one (more substantial than chemistry) thing: he challenges her. Or better yet, they challenge each other. I absolutely get that he raped her, he has done horrible things to her (including that whole Rafe2 thing, which also included rape), etc. She has done some horrible things to him (attempted murder, hiding their child together, etc.). In soap worlds we can’t have too long or clear a memory, or too close a relationship with logic. But EJAMI keep each other- and therefore the audience- on their toes. It is compelling television. And THAT is why I finally get EJAMI.
I don’t know if I want them to be together, but I think that’s really the point. If she’s with Lucas she gets bored and does something mean to him, which makes me mad at Sami (same old) and sad for Lucas (same old). If she’s with EJ- people may die, paternity tests may get switched, anything is possible. So I for one am ready to buckle up and see where this goes. As I said, I don’t care much for Sami, but I DO care for great TV, and I feel like we are in for an awesome ride.
