Retro FriDAYS: Jack hits the highway to heaven

In his re-re-re-re-re-return to DAYS, Jack never reached the high bar Matthew Ashford set for the character throughout the years. Nevertheless his (most recent) death was genuinely sad, as opposed to some other character passings through the years. Until his return, here’s a look back:

Oh no! Someone starting trouble between Jack and Jen!

Jack rapes Kayla, if that’s your thing, and they used to sing copyrighted songs?

Deveraux plays the intrepid newspaper reporter at the Salem Spectator

An epic Jack and Jennifer fan video

Thanks to Youtube user Karen73UK, we have an epic, seven-part look at the many faces of Jack.

Face 1: Angst

Face 2: Hero

Face 3: Romance

Face 4: Fun

Face 5: Here’s my sad face

Face 6: Family man

Face 7: Villain (My Favorite)

As we all know Jack isn’t the most stable man, but he does have nine lives (at least!). Someone pointed out he even came back after having his friggin’ organs donated. So here’s to hoping we haven’t seen the last of Jack Deveraux. ‘Til then…

(Oh yeah, and Madison died, too.)

Retro FriDAYS: Chicago Edition

This week’s Retro FriDAYS is a salute to the Windy City, a place that occasionally gets name-checked as the biggest town around. Although let’s be honest, this is mostly about the band Chicago.

In my limited time watching I’ve never actually seen a scene set there, but they talk about it from time to time.

Although occasionally the stars pay a visit.

Like in 1993 when New Bo had a big tip.

Or more recently when Morgan caught Chloe and Philip snogging.

And here goes the musical tributes set to Chicago:

Lots of Jack and Jen love out there

Same goes for Bo and Carly. (Barley?)

Or better times for Kayla and Patch.

Victor and Maggie

Need to feel inspired? Here’s a trifecta.

Retro FriDAYS: Pretend We’re Dead Edition

Mrs. Kirkakis wanted this week’s subject to be about how Sami never learns anything ever, which is a great idea but would be at least a 10-parter. Instead we take a look back at the last time everyone thought half the town was dead… or, used to think they were dead… or something.

First we take you to Marlena’s funeral. You’d think that, given a second chance to spend time with her mom, that Sami wouldn’t be such a B about it these days. (Then she was sorry again, then she was a B again)

OhMyGodEveryoneIsDead! More importantly, Jack’s baby mullet!

Marlena goes to… hell?

Did I miss anything?

How in the hell did we get here?

Come on, who else is rich, evil and bored enough to do this?

And before that, there was this

Which is, of course, nothing like this at all.

Retro FriDAYS: You dropped a bomb on me edition

Days may not be able to afford fancy things like pyrotechnics and outdoor sets but that didn’t stop them from working da bombs into da storylines.

Wherever there was evil, there was Lawrence Alamain…

Part 1

Part 2

OhNoBriefcaseBomb!

OhNoPlaneBomb!

OhNoVictor!

OhNoErnestoOnTheCruiseOfDeception!

OhYeaBonusBomb!

Who do you think is the bigger sex bomb? Lucas…

or Elvis?

Retro FriDAYS: Kimmy Gibbler used to be on DOOL??? Edition

I was working on a different Retro FriDAYS concept when I came across this discovery and had to share.

Y’all remember Full House, right? The show that made us think Bob Sagat was a decent person?

What about DJ’s weird friend Kimmy Gibbler?

Looooooongtime DOOL fans may know actress Andrea Barber from before that. A role she originated: Carrie Reed.

A Dr. Tom Horton appearance in this video, which also features Josh “Roman Brady” Taylor (playing Det. Chris Kositchek) talking on the phone with Wayne Northrup, who used to play Roman Brady. Whoa.

Roman and Abe put together a crib, with help from Carrie

Even back then, the kids were just a sideshow. But here’s a clip for all you BOPE fans:

Hush, little baby.

Oh no! I hope she’s OK!

But things apparently went well for OG Carrie after her run in primetime: She retired from acting, had two kids, went to the same undergrad college as Richard Nixon and lives in England, where she got her master’s degree in women’s studies.

Seems like she had a much easier go of it post-Full House than this guy (NOT SAFE FOR WORK)

H/T Youtube user Ariel61959 for the incredible playlist!

Retro FriDAYS: Love and Luther Edition, Pt. 1

Luther Vandross may have left us, but his legacy still lives on, at least in DOOL fan videos. I’ve never seen so much Luther love. Enjoy this Retro FriDAYS roundup of Salemites in love, Vandross style.

By the way, for Bo & Carly fans there’s a bunch more videos from their wedding back in the day set to Luther on Youtube.

Bo and Hope – Here and Now

Bo and Carly – Wedding Night Part 5

Nicole and Rafe – The Night That Almost Was (Luther)

EJami – Always and Forever

A tribute to Grandpa Shawn

For all you Roman and Marlena fans out there…

No! Kayla! Don’t take it off!

And for the anticlimactic finish, Daniel & Chloe (apologies if this one doesn’t work)

Retro FriDAYS: ‘Napped!

May the veteran DOOL character who has not been kidnapped cast the first AMBER Alert. At least these characters knew they were wanted. Due to the proliferation of involuntary personal takings on DOOL, look out for ‘Napped! Part 2 at some point.

A man and woman I don’t recognize go looking for John Black in all the wrong places

Old Hope wasn’t very good at not getting kidnapped either

So does this qualify as a good kidnapping?

Featured this one once before, but it bears repeating now. Remember when DOOL could afford fancy things like fire trucks and outdoor sets? (Me either.)

I have no idea what’s happening here.
